Tracking PFAS in the Global Supply Chain
Tightening PFAS regulation and supplier exits threatened a MedTech maker's supply chain. Trexin ran a structured outreach across 3,000+ suppliers (3,085 contacted, 1,971 reaching complete status) to inventory 'forever chemicals' for compliance and continuity.
Challenge
A multibillion-dollar medical-technology manufacturer faced supply-chain disruption as PFAS (“forever chemical”) regulations tightened and major suppliers halted PFAS production, risking recalls, delays, and cost on life-saving devices. The Client needed to inventory PFAS across a network of 3,000+ suppliers and get ahead of upcoming bans.
Approach
We organized supplier outreach into distinct workstreams for cleaner workflow and resource use, categorizing suppliers by responsiveness and priority (by operating unit). High-priority suppliers got direct engagement to maximize response and data accuracy; lower-priority ones moved through automated outreach. Open dialogue about PFAS use encouraged participation, and process-flow documentation kept everyone aligned to the Client’s goals.
Outcome
By project end, 3,085 suppliers were contacted, 1,530 surveys completed, and 1,971 suppliers reached complete status, a precise read on PFAS presence across products and processes. The work reinforced the Client’s regulatory compliance and environmental commitments and supported supply-chain continuity.
Why Trexin
Targeted engagement and clear communication to get ahead of a regulatory disruption, not just react to it.
